When considering repairs, necessary upgrades or the possibilities of a remodel, how do you decide what to do and what not to do? It’s a tricky question. Over the years, I have found that the style, history and location of the home will dictate when it is worth the effort and investment to remodel the interior spaces with a sensitive hand in order to reflect expectations of modern living patterns. After 30+ plus years of remodeling properties as diverse as urban condos, historic homes and medieval farmhouses, it becomes clear when an addition or upgrade will take a house up to a different level in terms of value, desirability and use. Particularly when considering these improvements prior to selling, it can be money very well spent in terms of a quick sale and a return of investment. However, most homeowners have neither the experience to manage a project, the resources of trusted contractors or the time to do it if they could.

I offer a very unique service to my clients that are considering the sale of their home. In addition to advising on preparing the house for the market and evaluating the merits of any improvements, I will coordinate the entire project as part of my listing responsibilities. As in the case of this Green Lake home, it enabled the sellers to realize an unimagined success.

‘What does a 50+ hour/week worker (and play-hard-weekender) do when his trashed rental home needs to go on the market? I was at a complete loss--I know basic home maintenance, but to fix what my renters had left behind was overwhelming to me. But then, my guardian angel stepped in. The value of having a real estate agent that knows home design, home structure, and home maintenance is unfathomable in itself, but add general contractor?? Joanmarie Curran went through my rental, list in hand, and determined what was essential to repair and remodel the home in order to make it attractive. She oversaw the entire work: from yard maintenance, to bathroom remodel, to furnace repair, to flooring installation, to plumbing issues, and beyond. The transformation happened in just two months; she had all of the contacts in which to make it happen and coordinated them all. Voila. The prize? Multiple offers, and a significant return on my repair/remodel investment. Simply put: invaluable. “ Matt D.
