When considering repairs, necessary upgrades or the possibilities of a remodel, how do you decide what to do and what not to do? It’s a tricky question. Over the years, I have found that the style, history and location of the home will dictate when it is worth the effort and investment to remodel the interior spaces with a sensitive hand in order to reflect expectations of modern living patterns. After 30+ plus years of remodeling properties as diverse as urban condos, historic homes and medieval farmhouses, it becomes clear when an addition or upgrade will take a house up to a different level in terms of value, desirability and use. Particularly when considering these improvements prior to selling, it can be money very well spent in terms of a quick sale and a return of investment. However, most homeowners have neither the experience to manage a project, the resources of trusted contractors or the time to do it if they could.
